SUMMARY:
The Health and Physical Education Mentor is responsible to direct a comprehensive health and physical education program including program planning and implementation, supervision of volunteers and facility and equipment management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Diploma/GED and two (2) years of formal post-secondary education in health, physical education, or related field is required.
• One to three (1-3) years of experience in health and physical education or related field required.
• One to three (1-3) years of experience working with youth of a variety of ages in a drop-in atmosphere is required.
• Must have experience in program planning, special event planning and implementation and group facilitation.
• Experience working with youth of a variety of ages, coaching and skill development in a multitude of sports necessary.
• Must be a self-starter, creative, possess maturity in judgment, be very organized, enthusiastic and goal oriented.
• High energy level and willingness to work outside normal business hours is required.
• Should be computer proficient.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance Policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background check.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee the daily operation of the gymnasium.
• Provide a wide range of program options for individuals, small groups and large groups that are age appropriate and engaging.
• Maintain a safety conscious attitude in performing duties and provide a safe environment for program participants.
• Teach and coach a wide variety of sports for both boys and girls including but not limited to:
o Basketball
o Baseball
o Floor Hockey
o Volleyball
o Soccer
o Golf
o Archery
o Lacrosse
o Cross Training
• Supervise department volunteers.
• Teach weekly lessons, lasting up to an hour, audience appropriate pertaining to Health and Physical Education.
• Maintain positive collaborations with other area agencies.
• Plan and implement a wide variety of special events, i.e. Family Fun Night Presentations/Activities for Community, Healthy Practices/Healthy Choices for Community.
• Submit periodic (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) written reports including statistical information.
• Compile data for each program run, or implemented, i.e. pre, during, post/ successes, shortcomings.
• Prepare and provide a healthy and nutritious meal for all clients, be aware of client allergies or medical history, as it may pertain to food consumption or preparation.
• Communicate effectively with staff, members, parents and community partners
• Attend monthly Community Meetings.
• Must be able to drive company owned vehicles.
• Attend regular staff meetings including planning and evaluation days.
• Special projects as assigned.
• Must be able to complete incident reports and program progress reports.
• Must abide by mandating reporting guidelines.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Typical hours are 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Extra hours, weekend and seasonal availability are required for this job on an as needed basis.
• There is moderate stress associated with this position.
• Work is primarily indoors, but events and trips may require some outdoor work.
• There is little risk of personal danger or risk.
• Some local travel may be required.
