SUMMARY:
The Cultural Revivalist Specialist will assemble, preserve, catalogue and manage historical information, images and other collections to determine their significance and value in order to preserve the Ojibwe language and cultural documents for the history and future of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in American Indian Studies, History, Anthropology or Library Science required and two years of work experience in a library or archival setting required.
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in Ojibwe Culture and Language required.
• Must have knowledge of archival procedures and practices.
• Must be familiar with digital imaging, filing and retrieval of records.
• Must have a passionate history and the preservation of documents and artifacts.
• Must understand the relationship of the Ojibwe language and cultural documents to the Mille Lacs community and values, and supports the mission of both.
• Must be able to analyze and decide which material should be preserved and the ability to determine the importance, origin and history of the material they work with.
• Computer skills are vital to this position. Must be able to access databases and other electronic management tools.
• Must have a working knowledge of the preservation of historical items by using the right chemicals and techniques according to the type of material such as painting, documents, pottery or fabrics.
• Must have a working knowledge and approach to the preservation of the Ojibwe language by ensuring its existence and relevance to the Mille Lacs Band community.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to interact with the public in retrieving information and providing presentations.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design and implement an effective and efficient archive program for cultural documents and preservation of language.
• Analyze materials such as maps, films, documents and paintings, checking their authenticity, physical condition and historical content.
• Preserve collections correctly by storing and conserving from various time periods.
• Monitor the storage space and security to protect the materials.
• Ensure the electronic recordkeeping systems provide security, preservation, and protection of the authenticity and integrity of e-records, and integrating electronic and paper-based systems.
• Arrange and classify record to ensure the proper and logical ordering of records that are scanned into digital files with the goal of facilitating access and use.
• Organize and maintain files in conformance with systems and standards developed in consultation with the Executive Director.
• Maintain database of document status, i.e., received, distributed, and storage.
• Store material in such a way that would make retrieval available.
• Identify and label historical records and oral histories to secure a safe environment and taking measures to ensure protection of privacy and confidentiality as appropriate and necessary.
• Develop processes that will encourage Mille Lacs Band community to speak Ojibwe and participate in cultural activities towards future preservation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work hours are typically 40 hours a week; some extra hours may be required but not a significant part of the position.
• Work induces a little amount of stress.
• Work is exclusively indoors in a controlled climate area.
• Remote work capabilities with supervisor approval. Must follow Remote Work protocol.
