Karma completed the drug training program
Her keen sense of smell can alert her to more than just bacon frying in a pan. In fact, oddly, she really doesn’t even care about bacon. She is sniffing out dope. Drugs that is. And Karma, the rookie K9 cop of Tribal PD, has earned her Narcotic Detection Certification from the United States Police Canine Association.
The 2-year-old Belgian Malinois successfully competed the 10-day drug training and testing program in April and can now detect and alert her handler, officer Tim Kintop, of the presence of marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, crack and cocaine.
“Seek dope” is the command for Karma to get to work searching, Kintop explained. When she finds the drugs, she simply sits. And waits. Her reward is her ball.
