Dental Receptionist

SUMMARY:
The Receptionist is primarily responsible for greeting, scheduling of patients and verifying documents.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• At least two (2) year experience as a receptionist in a dental/medical office setting is required.
• Knowledge of patient eligibility verification procedures for health/dental care services.
• HIPAA training/knowledge is mandatory.
• Prior experience in use of a multi-line telephone system, setting appointments, greeting, registering, and directing patients, and light office duties is preferred.
• Basic medical knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to work and communicate sensitively, confidentially, and effectively with patients, families, and staff.
• Prior experience in and sensitivity to a Native American culture is preferred.
• Basic organizational skills.
• Computer literate, working knowledge of Dentrix or similar electronic dental record required.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Must possess a valid driving license
• Must be insurable per MLBO policy for driving and automobile

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Greets patients and visitors, collects registration information, and answers patient and visitor inquiries.
• Answer incoming telephone calls, forwards as appropriate, or obtains and transcribe name and message. Forward messages as appropriate. Forward caller to voice mail if requested.
• Schedule appointments according to established dental appointment policy.
• Confirm next day appointments.
• Prepare patient charts, files, and other care and billing documentation.
• File and pull patient charts.
• Registers, verifies and updates patients information (updates computer record) when they arrive at the clinic and prints appropriate form(s) for dental staff.
• Verify insurance and enter insurance including Circle of Health information.
• Makes follow up calls as needed.
• Check lab information.
• Collect lab fee payments
• Maintain dental supplies.
• Maintain desk and reception area.
• Comply with Patient/Client Statement of Rights.
• Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that incumbent experiences infrequent periods of modest stress levels due to workload. Irate or agitated constituents may also be a source of stress.
• Work is exclusively in doors in a controlled climate area.
• Little threat of personal danger or risk.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but possibly with some extra hours.
• Local travel may be required.
