Mille Lacs Band Court of Central Jurisdiction
The Mille Lacs Band Judicial Branch is established by Title 5 of the Mille Lacs Band Statutes and is referred to as the Court of Central Jurisdiction. The Mille Lacs Band's judicial philosophy is that the goal of the justice system is to bring about peace by balancing the rights of the individual with the need to allow for harmonious coexistence. The concept of Zhawenimaa, to keep the people together, is the Court of Central Jurisdiction's guiding principle. Accordingly, the court proceedings are to be non-adversarial, a cooperative search for truth and justice.
The Court of Central Jurisdiction is comprised of the Mille Lacs Band District Court and the Mille Lacs Band Court of Appeals.
