SNAP-ED Coordinator

SUMMARY:
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP- ED) Coordinator coordinates the nutrition education work plans for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe (MLBO) with the work-plans of the individual reservation. Work-plans designs are created in collaboration with Band programs, health and nutrition staff. The mission of MLBO SNAP-ED Programming, is to provide education to individuals in the area of Dietary Quality, Food Safety, Food Security and Shopping Behavior/Food Resource Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
• Bachelor’s in Human Service, Social Work, Education, Nutrition or related field preferred; AAS in related field and 3+ years of experience. (Additional experience may substitute for educational areas)
• Four years of experience working with food, nutrition or food service administration or public health program.
• Four years of experience working with Native American programs.
• Must have effective interpersonal relationship skills including good listening and communication skills.
• Ability to keep abreast of current changes in policies, regulations and standards of practice in the food service field.
• ServSafe Certification required or be able to obtain within six months.
• Has understanding for and respect for client confidentiality.
• Two years of group education facilitation for all ages
• Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license and current insurance.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to work in cooperation with other departments and levels of personnel.
• Has experience with Native American culture and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• Must have current driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, proof of current insurance coverage, and insurability under the Band’s Auto Insurance Policy.

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participates in program orientation collectively with other reservation staff and the State Grant Manager in conjunction with the MLBO Diabetes Program Director.
• Assist in distribution and collection of any needs assessments based on staff and participant interviews.
• Develop an annual SNAP-ED work-plan for the MLBO reservation complementing individual reservation nutrition education activities.
• Serves as a liaison with federal, state, county and public agencies in developing and coordinating nutrition education work-plans.
• Use established curriculum and educational materials.
• Developing culturally relevant education lessons and activities pertaining to nutrition education.
• Prepare and conduct group and individual education lessons and activities for all ages (generally ages 5+).
• Establish goals with the participants regarding learning outcomes and manage the lesson planning to achieve those outcomes.
• Present lessons at locations accessible to the participant.
• Conduct an assessment of learning using an evaluation instrument.
• Use evaluation instrument to record changes in knowledge gained and behavior.
• Record, submit and save program activities in accordance with the USDA SNAP Education Program regulations.
• Responsible for daily entry of data to measure key indicators.
• Submits timecard, travel forms and purchase requisitions to the Diabetes Program Coordinator as needed.
• Submit quarterly activity reports, due 30 days after the end of each quarter to the State Grant Program Manager.
• Other duties pertaining to the grant program as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that the incumbent experiences periods of low stress levels while dealing with program requirements.
• Work is primarily indoors
• Little threat of personal danger or risk.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but possibly with some extra hours. May involve some evening or weekend.
• Local travel is required.
