SALARY RANGE: $19.55 - $31.25

SUMMARY:
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible to act as a liaison between the patient/client and clinician. They will provide clinical and administrative support to the medical providers, ensuring smooth clinic through-put. Based on community needs the individual in this position may be called on to participate in clinical teams gearing to meeting community need; examples are outreach clinics, testing or large-scale vaccinations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current unrestricted Medical Assistance Certification. (Eight months is allowed from the date of hire to pass the examination).
• Minimum of three to five years of experience in a clinic setting preferred.
• Knowledge of and experience in performing simple lab procedures, phlebotomy and CLIA waived lab tests preferred, not required.
• Demonstrated computer skills and working ability with Microsoft Office, excel and the electronic medical record.
• Ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with patients and/or parents who are stressed.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
• Understands the practical application of infection control, exposure control and quality assurance practices.
• Knowledge of Data Privacy Act and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patients, clinic and Band information.
• Knowledge and sensitive to Native American culture and traditions.
• Must have valid MN Driver License and the ability to be insured under the Mille Lacs Band driving insurance policy.
• Must pass a background check.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Gathers patient/client vital signs, medical/social history, allergies and other needed information to prepare for the clinician visit.
• Prepare patients/clients for examinations by explaining the examination procedure and answer relevant questions.
• Assist clinician with patient/client examination at the provider’s request.
• Prepares and administers injections and/or other treatments ordered by clinicians.
• Draws/collects lab specimens as ordered by the clinicians.
• Reports all lab results to provider and records in the patient/client’s electronic medical record.
• Assists with dressing changes, cast revisions/applications, minor procedures, etc. as directed by the clinician.
• Instructs patient/client/family others regarding home care, other health care, medication, etc. Refers patients/clients to appropriate community resources.
• Perform routine procedures following standard protocols and instructions. Follow established quality control procedures.
• Comply with established policies and procedures for infection control and exposures. control; Follows Following each patient/client examination clean the room and prepare for next patient/client. Sterilize any equipment as needed.
• Actively participate in community outreach, testing and vaccinations. Attend committees as assigned. Participate in quality improvement projects as assigned. Maintain knowledge of scope of practice, policies, procedures, protocols and regulations governing the delivery of health care. May be assigned to support district clinics as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that the incumbent experiences infrequent periods of low to moderate stress.
• Work is exclusively in doors in a controlled climate area.
• Must use personal protective equipment such as mask, gloves, and goggles ass patient/client presentation warrants.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but on occasion can have extra hours.
• Local travel maybe required.
