SUMMARY:
The Teacher is to provide a successful safe and supervised educational setting for children, while they are in the Head Start/Early Head Start/Childcare environment (classroom, outdoor play area and field trips). As well as promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of head Start children. Encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the program. The development of individual goals for children, provide ongoing assessment on progress and facilitate transition to the next level of education. This is accomplished through individualized plans for each child and family, including Ojibwe Language and Culture components.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Loves children can wholeheartedly engage in working with and for them.
• AA degree, in Early Childhood (CDA within one year) and or willingness to work in advanced degree program.
• Preferred BA Degree
• Preferred two years experience in pre-school classroom.
• CPR and first aid certified or (within 30days).
• Current mantox (yearly) and physical every two years.
• Continued compliance of the Mille Lacs Band drug and alcohol policy.
• Employment is conditional upon pre-hire and continued compliance of the background check policy.
• Valid MN drivers license and insurable as a Mille Lacs Band Employee.
Other
• All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject to Head Start confidentiality policy.
• Computer skills experience with various applications, such as word processing, e-mail and Internet.
• Daily kneeling, stooping, bending and sitting on the floor, and occasional heavy lifting to attend children's needs. Demonstrate the ability to supervise preschool children, ensuring safe learning environment in the classroom outdoors and on field trips. Including the physical ability to respond to children who are active; ensuring their safety or the safety of others in the environment.
• Able to lift 25lbs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prevention and Early intervention/disabilities services
• Supervise and monitor children and all classroom staff at all times.
• Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all components.
• Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.
• Coordinate staff in the classroom developing a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom.
• Make classroom and curriculum adaptations as necessary.
Individualization
• Adapt curriculum and classroom to address and meet individual goals for children as identified in their individualized Education plans.
• Assess individual and group needs attending to the special-needs, specific interests, strengths and concerns.
Curriculum and Assessment
• Developing and utilize integrated curriculum plans , which reflect mandated elements and components, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social , emotional , physical and cognitive development of Head Start children.
• Follow a consistent schedule, which includes small and large group exercises, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals and effective transitions between activities.
• Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, socialization and choice making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers.
• Complete weekly goals/lesson plans that promote individual and group Head Start components.
• Prepare classroom materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans create and change learning centers as needed.
Parent Involvement and Community Partnerships
• Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom.
• Monitor progress on family partnership goals.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding each child's progress.
• Conduct required parent-teacher conferences and home visits for the purpose of assessment and support and share information on classroom progress and education strategies at school and at home.
• Help plan and conduct regular parent meetings and family nights with team members
• Work with appropriate agencies in developing specialized planning for children and families as needed.
• Prepare and distribute follow up/pertinent information requested by the family in a timely manner.
Documentation and Record-keeping
• Maintains program documentation and reporting requirements of program grants.
• Document baselines, ongoing assessments, and individual progress in child portfolios.
• Document all significant classroom issues parent contacts and home visits.
• Accurately document classroom attendance during mealtimes daily.
• Mandated reporter monitor and report suspected child abuse and neglect.
• Documents daily health and classroom observations, used to make modifications in individualized plans.
Additional Job Responsibilities
• Assist with breaks, bus monitoring, and other classroom needs as requested.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and other appropriate professional development activities.
• Assure general maintenance and security of facility and assist with inventory of equipment and supplies.
• Assure daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and sanitizing requirements are met.
