Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Environmental Mitigation Trust for Indian Tribe Beneficiaries
The Minnesota Chippewa Tribe - Mille Lacs Band information page of the Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Environmental Mitigation Trust for Indian Tribe Beneficiaries (the “Indian Tribe Trust”). Pursuant to a Notice of Beneficiary Designation (“NBD”) filed by the Trustee with the United States District Court for the Northern District of California (the “Court”), Minnesota Chippewa Tribe - Mille Lacs Band has been designated as a Beneficiary of the Indian Tribe Trust.
As a Beneficiary, Minnesota Chippewa Tribe - Mille Lacs Band is responsible for selecting Eligible Mitigation Actions and certifying that any such Eligible Mitigation Action meets all the requirements of the Indian Tribe Trust.
Charles Lippert of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Department of Natural Resources is the administrator of the Band’s Settlement award.

The Mille Lacs Band was awarded $172,179.00
The Band used the Volkswagen Settlement funds to mitigate for emissions of Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) by replacing a Roads Department vehicle. To complete this project, the Band expended $45,926.00 beyond the awarded $172,179.00 in the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Funds for Tribal Beneficiaries. Project was completed on November 15, 2023.
