ENP Assistant Cook

SUMMARY:
The Elder Nutrition Program (ENP) Assistant Cook is responsible for assisting the ENP Head Cook with the preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals served in the ENP.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• One (1) or more years of prior experience in food preparation is required.
• Knowledge of the Federal Nutrition guidelines.
• Serv Safe certificate required.
• Minimal experience in Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of Laserfiche.
• Ability to read, decipher, and follow proper procedures and directions.
• Experience in and sensitivity to Native American culture and the needs of the Elders.
• Ability to calculate quantities and revise recipes for larger or smaller food batches than the recipe calls for.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the job. (lifting 50 lbs or more).
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Must pass a background check.
• Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance Policy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in implementing the Administration on Aging Title VI Instructional Manual.
• Assist with food preparation, cooking and delivery of prepared meals.
• Assist with the set-up of dining room and/or meal service when necessary.
• Serve meals.
• Assist with the cleaning of kitchen and dining area by busing, washing, sanitizing, and storing dishes after meals are served.
• Maintain proper sanitation in the food preparation areas at all times.
• Report safety or sanitation issues to supervisor.
• Ensure that diner’s needs are being met in a safe and dignified manner.
• Ensure all food is prepared, served, and stored in accordance with standard food preparation and service guidelines to ensure prevention of food borne illnesses.
• Ensure that each person on a special diet gets the correct meal.
• Assist clients in getting in and out of vehicles and moving about.
• Attend workshop meetings and continuing education classes as funds become available and as required.
• In absence of ENP driver, take on the responsibility to deliver meals to homebound clients.
• Comply with the Mille Lacs Band Drug & Alcohol Policy.
• Comply with Federal Background Check Policy.
• Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that incumbent experiences infrequent periods of modest stress levels due to workload.
• Work is almost exclusively in doors in a controlled climate area. However, kitchen temperatures can become uncomfortable at times.
• May involve exposure to heat and humidity or hazards such as cuts and burns.
• Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but possibly with some extra hours. May involve some evening or weekend work.
