SALARY RANGE: $24.74 - $36.15

SUMMARY:
The ICWA Family Support Aide provides in-home support services to children and families who are currently involved in the child protection system. This position also generates activity, outcome, and progress reports as well as performing general support duties for case management in assistance to social workers. Services are intended to promote reunification, increase stability, safety and prevent out of home placement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED required and some experience in the Human Services or related field.
• Two-year degree and at least one-year experience in the Human Services or related field is preferred.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and the Minnesota Family Preservation Act.
• Knowledge and experience working with Native American communities, culture, customs, and cultural law.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn and train in interviewing, building rapport with families and observations skills.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Strong time management skills.
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
• Must have current valid Minnesota driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Must pass a background check.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Offer services in the homes of child protection clients, children in out-of-home placement, families who need specific support services.
• Participate in case plan development and implementation to carry out specific goal achievement of case plan with Family Services and or child protection plans.
• Assist social workers with Case Plans such as OHPP’s, CWTCM’s, MAPCY’s, In-Home Service Plan’s, Safety Plans, Visitation Plans and ILSP’s, etc. Assisting with completion of paperwork to meet timelines and due dates, obtain signatures from parties on case, conduct home visits, obtain UA’s, perform transports, attend team meetings, scheduling complex appointment calendars, filling out documents such as ROI’s/Permission to Accompany, getting social worker approval before signatures, perform research to assist social worker, etc.,
• Assisting in collecting medical, treatment plans, probation records, IEPs, and other documentation of information for social workers.
• Assisting clients with registering for Medical Assistance, Circle of Health, or other paperwork they may need help with in preparing required forms and documents.
• Identify client service needs and assist social worker in obtaining services if deemed necessary by the social worker.
• Assist with random Laserfiche and case note audit, at the directive of the Leadership, in coordination with the Quality Assurance Specialist.
• One Tribe Case Profile Photo upkeep and assist social workers with the daily upkeep and accurateness of One Tribe Case Profile information such as participants, people involved, relationship type, placements, legal, physical address, and mailing address are all up to date and current.
• Proof reading case notes, court reports, plans, or other important documentation as a support to the social worker.
• Supporting parents, children, foster parents, and tribal families, support aides have a very important role in filling in gaps needed to successfully reunify families.
• Supervises court ordered visitations for children in out of home placements.
• Provides transportation for child and/or parent clients to a variety of settings including in-patient & out-patient treatment centers, aftercare programming, detoxification programs, adult & juvenile detention centers, rehabilitation centers, foster homes, hospitals, jails, medical, dental and eye appointments, mental health therapy, therapy, public or private schools, colleges, and other places as needed or as directed by the Leadership.
• Assists child protection social workers with various typing and documentation requirements as directed by supervisor.
• Attend required training sessions and meetings as directed.
• Respond to client inquiries, as directed by leadership, by means of over the phone, in writing, through email or text message, and/or in person, whichever delivery is necessary to ensure client is answered.
• Assists the Child and Family with monitoring social services cases.
• Monitors and observes visitations, watches families interact and prepares un-biased case notes. This position is expected to intervene in situations when necessary to ensure safety.
• Assists social workers with scanning and uploading documentation into Laserfiche repository for proper documentation of case management files. Must have Laserfiche training to properly upload and save records.
• Manage complex transportation schedule and receive delegation of assignments from leadership, understand that transport may run past 5pm, support aides are expected to have a back-up plan and expected to offer support at reasonable requests.
• Performs miscellaneous support duties as requested by supervisors.
• Identify and work with family needs, challenges, and strengths.
• Communicate and work closely with the Mille Lacs band Social Worker assigned to the case by relaying critical information and coordinating duties.
• Assist children and families transitioning their children back into the homes from various placements such as foster care or correction placements.
• Provide transportation to clients as needed.
• Assess the need for and obtain resources for the families.
• Attend review meetings or related case support meetings as necessary.
• Maintain files in conjunction with the social workers on the case.
• Comply with Band and Child Protection Statutes.
• Contact with clients in the community and office.
• Maintain case progress notes.
• Maintain other records, logs, etc. and provide to management.
• Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that incumbent may experience periods of moderate to high stress levels while dealing with children, family members, and family services staff.
• Wok varies from outside activities to indoors in a controlled climate area.
• Moderate threat of personal danger or risk.
• Hours will vary and based off clients’ needs. Hours range from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with occasional work on holidays and weekends.
• Will involve working with many different people who are often distressed in some way.
• Local travel is required; travel outside the state is very limited.
