Investigator (2 Positions)

JOB TYPE: Full Time

REPORTS TO: Lead Investigator
SALARY RANGE: $19.46- $32.62

SUMMARY:
Position Purpose: The Investigator in this class under the direction of the Lead Investigator will focus on child protection investigations and family assessments as directed by the Lead Investigator. The work is done to align with the mission, vision and values of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Family Services Department. The Investigator will focus on the positive relationship building of the tribal and area partner agencies. The Investigator must exercise discretion as it applies to related laws, codes, and rules. The Investigator also will need to thoroughly document all case interactions with the appropriate record management system

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field (criminal justice/sociology).
• Experience working with a criminal justice, or related social services field.
• Experience working with Tribal, State, City or County Governments preferred.
• Knowledge of Investigative skills to include Forensic Interviewing of Children, related subject interviewing skills, and evidence collection.
• Working awareness of Indian Child Welfare act and MN Indian Family Preservation Act is required.
• Knowledge and experience working with Native American communities, culture, customs and cultural laws is preferred.
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision is required.
• Excellent communication, organization, and management skills are required.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment, multi task and prioritize.
• Knowledge and sensitivity to Native American Culture.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
• Must pass a background check.
• Must pass a Pre-employment drug & alcohol test.
• With 90 days completed a planned educational component.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate work with Mille Lacs, Aitkin, Pine, Crow Wing, Kanabec and Morrison Counties, but not limited to.
• Coordinate between all the various MLBO Departments and county entities which are involved in the work.
• Report to the Lead Investigator.
• Reports any problems and/or errors to Lead Investigator or appropriate supervisor.
• General authority to act independently, and exercise discretion understanding policies, procedures and best practices related to working with Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Families, and everyone else involved with the working Health and Human Systems or engaged individual(s).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that incumbent experiences frequent and regular periods of low to moderate stress levels while dealing with inside/outside entities.
• There also is the potential although limited to deal with highly stressful situations.
• Working is almost inclusively in doors in a controlled climate area.
• Moderate threat of personal danger.
• Will involve working with many partners; both internal and external to Family Services.
• Local travel will be required, travel outside the state is very limited.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but possibly with some extra hours. May involve some evening or weekend work.
• Must be able to, once appropriately and reasonable trained, provide on-call coverage.
• At times of staffing needs of the agency must be willing to accept all other duties as assigned by a senior member within their command structure.
• Any and all other duties assigned not specifically addressed but that do not violate any aforementioned laws, or ethical cannons.
• Work from home may be permissible with a signed telework agreement.
