The Department of Justice (DOJ) includes three divisions: the Office of the Solicitor General, the Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department, and Band Member Legal Aid. 24 MLBSA § 1053. The DOJ functions “within the Executive Branch of Government,” and principally operates from offices located at the Government Center. 24 MLBSA § 1051. The Solicitor General serves as the administrative supervisor of the DOJ.

Office of the Solicitor General (OSG)
The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) provides legal advice and representation for the Band government and oversees the Tribal Police Department. OSG represents the Band in tribal, state, and federal courts on all legal matters, including Indian Child Welfare, business, family, and federal Indian law.

Tribal Police
The Tribal Police Department ensures the safety and security of Band members and local communities. The department, which began in 1984 with one officer, has grown to employ more than 20 full-time officers.
