Cultural Resource Coordinator

SALARY RANGE: $46,800-$62,200

SUMMARY:
The Cultural Resource Coordinator assists with planning, coordinating, monitoring and reviewing culturally based activities for the reentry client. This position coordinates access to traditional and culturally based resources, access to Elders and Traditional individuals to meet the needs of the reentry client.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associate’s degree or Certificate in Human Services is preferred, with experience in Native American cultural programming and support.
• A minimum of three years of demonstrated and related work experience within an Indigenous organization or community.
• Must be knowledgeable of the cultural and spiritual traditions of Native American communities, specifically, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.
• Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must have experience with data entry and working with database systems.
• Must be able to work with a diverse group of clients whose criminal background is a hindrance to employability.
• Must be able to work with intertribal agencies to make employment and housing more accessible to clients served.
• Must be able to maintain highest level of confidentiality with respect to clients to maintain integrity of the program.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport.
• Basic computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Windows and Word.
• Must have current valid driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.

• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Must pass background investigation.
• Mille Lacs Band Member/American Indian Preference does apply.
• Background investigation required that shows no theft or fraud above a misdemeanor, no felony drug conviction and no sexual or crimes-against-a-person conviction at any level.
• A staff person with direct contact with or access to children in care must disclose the arrest, conviction, and applicant background information if that staff person:
(a) has a conviction of, has admitted to, has an adjudication of delinquency for, has been charged and is awaiting trial for, or a preponderance of the evidence indicates the person has committed:

  1. a crime against a child;
  2. an act of physical or sexual abuse;
  3. neglect;
  4. a felony;
  5. the same or similar crimes as those in this subsection listed in the laws of another state or of the United States or of any Tribal law;
    (b) has a conviction of, has admitted to, has an adjudication of delinquency for, has been charged and is awaiting trial for, or a preponderance of the evidence indicates the person has committed any misdemeanor offense under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children. The Licensing Committee may evaluate the nature and time of a misdemeanor assault charge as well as other types of misdemeanor crimes not specified in this section to determine whether employment is appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Meet with clients, both individually and in groups, when applicable, to provide cultural support and education.
• Develop a mutually agreed upon development plan for all clients utilizing a person-centered plan approach.
• Coordinate resources to aid client’s needs of traditional dancing, singing, drumming, community and/or seasonal celebrations/feasts, traditional and social events.
• Document and coordinate with other agencies, as applicable, that have a role in the ongoing plan.
• Coordinate cultural programming in collaboration with the Reentry staff.
• Work closely with other program staff to monitor progress, and coordinate referral support in connection with the cultural needs.
• Collaborate with community partners connecting client with a range of social services embracing their cultural needs.
• Participate in the multi-disciplinary team approach to care in a culturally based model of care.
• Participate and/or facilitate cultural groups and activities.
• Maintain appropriate records for clients with whom there is interaction.
• Track and report cultural activities through department’s database.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Though working hours are typically 8:00 to 5:00, this position requires some flexibility in scheduling as driven by client needs and support during ceremonies and cultural events. Programming may require weekend hours.
• Moderate stress levels may be experienced from time to time.
• Work is primarily indoors; however, some cultural programming and activities is outdoors. Safety of clients and staff is in the forefront of planning and conducting outdoor activities.
