SALARY RANGE: $72,000 to $102,360.81

SUMMARY:
The General Contractor is responsible for coordination of new construction and renovation projects managed through the Community Development Department of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduate or GED certificate.
• Must have a certificate or one year of post-secondary in construction related field.
• Must have a certified state general contractor’s license or obtain within 1 year.
• Minimum (7) years’ experience in “hands-on” construction work required.
• Prior experience in reading construction blueprints desired.
• Must have prior experience in the construction/remodel of buildings.
• Ability to coordinate service and repair on MLB housing units.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the MLB housing dept. MLB project management staff, and subcontractors.
• Experienced supervisory skills in construction field.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards.
• Ability to keep organized files.
• Ability to gather information from multiple sources to make decisions.
• Ability to run multiple projects at once.
• Knowledge of the Mille Lacs Band government procurement procedures.
• Strong personal computer skills in a Windows environment, including Excel, and Word.
• Familiarity with and ability to operate and manage various types of office equipment.
• Must have current driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, and insurability under the Band’s Auto Insurance Policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as primary daily contact with contractors during the construction/repair process.
• Serves as primary daily contact with MLB staff & sub-contractors.
• Reviews contractor work to ensure work is completed in accordance with contract and specifications.
• Serves as primary contact with outside construction professionals, including but not limited to architects, designers, electrical and mechanical engineers, and others as required to complete construction projects.
• Creates specifications and solicits bids for repair and service work.
• Monitors projects to ensure they are completed on a timely basis and costs are within the project budget.
• Assist with internal projects and project management for renovation and construction of all Mille Lacs Band department buildings.
• Advises Commissioner of Community Development of status of ongoing projects.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of each project including material & labor cost.
• Maintains knowledge of Band member qualifications necessary to be part of work force.
• Must procure materials & resources pertaining to job sites.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that incumbent experiences frequent periods of moderate to high stress levels due to deadlines and workloads.
• Work is both indoors in a climate-controlled area and periodically outside where exposure to severe weather is possible.
• Little threat of personal danger or risk, although working on construction sites may pose some exposure to danger. Use of safety equipment is required in such circumstances.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but possibly with some extra hours. May involve evening or weekend working to meet deadlines and maintain workload. Seasonal work schedule to be determined.
• Local travel to all three districts and the urban community is required to work as Project Coordinators and manage construction projects in process; travel outside the state is very limited.
