Paralegal/Housing Liaison

SALARY RANGE: $24.03 to $43.77

SUMMARY:
The Paralegal/Housing Liaison performs and oversees legal administrative and secretarial duties in support of the Executive Director of Housing alongside the Deputy Solicitor General assigned to the Housing Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associates Degree in paralegal studies or equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred.
• Three (3) or more years of related experience, including experience with legal documents, word processing, client correspondence, and acting as a liaison for the organization to outside constituents preferred.
• Preferred experience dealing with Band Housing.
• Preferred strong ties to the Mille Lacs Band community.
• Experience working in the areas of criminal and civil law.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to deal with highly confidential information.
• Strong PC skills in a Windows environment, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and office support software.
• Ability to operate office machines, including but not limited to photocopying machines, fax machines and dictation equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Capable of maintaining accurate records.
• Must have current valid driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
• Must pass a background check.
• Must pass a Pre-employment drug & alcohol test.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for scheduling and maintaining complex court calendars.
• Responsible for scheduling and maintaining Board calendars and documents
• Attend Housing Board meetings alongside the Executive Director of Housing
• Organize and maintain Housing files.
• Compile information, organize data and produce various reports.
• Draft policy and policy changes alongside Department legal counsel.
• Act as a liaison with other government departments, agencies and necessary personnel.
• Prepare/file/service pleadings with the court.
• Compose and mail correspondence to clients and the court.
• Regularly communicate with clients and court personnel.
• Has access to and handles confidential information.
• Make meeting, travel and special events (e.g., lecture series, conferences, etc.) arrangements.
• Prepare timesheets, spreadsheets, budget modifications, check requests, and purchase orders for Deputy Solicitor General in the Housing Office as needed
• Perform general office support responsibilities to include answering phones, reviewing, sorting and distributing incoming mail.
• Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Nature of work is such that incumbent experiences infrequent periods of moderate to high stress levels due to current workload of clients and callers. Agitated or distressed callers/visitors may also be a source of stress.
• Work is primarily indoors in a controlled climate area.
• Moderate threat of personal danger or risk.
• Hours are typically 8-5, but possibly with some extra hours.
• Travel is not required.
